The moment came and went, and apologies were sent. A lot of people were pissed off at Rich Homie for forgetting the Biggie lyrics to “Get Money” at this years Hip-Hop honors. Most of the time the only thing that we understand is the hook. No matter what Jeffery attempts to say on a track his fan base seems to just continue to grow. There are only a few words you can make out in a Young Thug song, everything else is undecipherable. He somehow, caught people's attention with his music. He has caught the attention of many with his gender fluid fashion choices. No one has had an impact like the rapper formerly known as Thugga. Young Thug is one of the most talked about rappers out. Alarmingly, there is a growing group of rappers who tend to mumble on tracks but these are the top 5 mumble rappers that are out now. It could be the challenge of trying to decode what they are trying to say that make it exciting for listeners. It's mystery why we continue to listen to people who aren't using real words. We hear these songs all the time but can’t decipher what exactly is being said. Some of the most popular artists out now have slurred their way through a song or two. Either way, “mumble rap” is a thing, for now. You can blame it on the lean, Xans and other drugs that rappers now boast about using or you can put it on pure laziness. Some people can’t care less as long as the beats are dope, but it’s pissing some people off. Some rappers aren’t enunciating their lyrics anymore. No matter what anyone says, mumble rap has changed the rap landscape forever, for better or for worse.There is a trend going on in Hip-Hop right now that some people have taking a strong disliking to. Every lyric of every song is rebellious of what rap is supposed to be and fans love it. Mumble rap doesn’t want to be what you want it to be. No one really knows what’s next for mumble rap, but that’s the fun of it. ![]() What began as an outsider’s sub-genre of hip hop has now diversified into an important component of rap with many different artists, personalities, and styles that range from that of Lil Uzi Vert to Playboi Carti. Rappers like Future and Desiigner put out songs that are, for the most part, unintelligible, but at the same time are melodically intriguing and tied together with a beat that sets a mood that is unforgettable, to say the least. Mumble rap is fun, catchy, and hit-making. From the start, hip hop has prided itself on political commentary and anger. I get why some people hate on mumble rap. From Grammys to casual debates, rappers regarded as the best to ever do it always seem to be the most skilled lyricists. Since the beginning, an artist’s skill in this genre has been measured by his or her lyrical ability, or ability to tell a story. Instead, it creates a new and exciting path for the genre to go. That’s not what it tries to bring to the table. There is no denying the fact that mumble rap, at times, lacks lyrical substance. Unlike many forms of hip-hop though, chances are you’ve heard some old guy on the internet comment something about how much he hates it, however mumble rap is great. As rap has grown to the forefront of entertainment, so has the sub-genre mumble rap. ![]()
